A Sunset to Remember | Navarre Beach Family Session

Navarre Beach Family Photographer | Barefoot Photography LLC

Some photo sessions are about celebrating a milestone.

Others are simply about holding on to a season of life before it slips away.

This sweet sunset session at Navarre Pier was one of those moments.

Grandma reached out because her son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old twin granddaughters were visiting the Gulf Coast. Like so many families, they realized how quickly time is moving and wanted to preserve these memories while everyone was together.

There wasn't a birthday or a special event.

Just a family gathering at the beach, a beautiful evening, and a desire to remember this season exactly as it is.

The twins arrived dressed in matching yellow and orange ombre dresses that perfectly reflected the colors of a Florida sunset. To make the evening even more fun, I created flower crowns to coordinate with their outfits and secretly passed them to Grandma before the session began.

When she presented them to the girls, their faces lit up.

They immediately wanted to put them on.

And just like that, the crowns became part of the story.

The evening unfolded along one of the Gulf Coast's most beautiful stretches of shoreline. Navarre Beach offered everything we could have asked for — warm golden light, a soft summer breeze, white sand, and that signature emerald water stretching out behind the family. We wandered between the beach, the dunes, and the iconic Navarre Pier while the sun slowly dipped toward the horizon.

Some of my favorite images from the session weren't carefully posed at all.

They were the genuine moments.

The sisters wrapping their arms around each other.

A little girl leaning close to Grandpa.

The smiles exchanged between generations.

The kind of moments that happen naturally when a family simply enjoys being together.

Near the end of our session, a weathered teal fence just off the beach path caught my eye. The color against those dresses and the girls' beautiful hair was too good to pass up. We had just enough time — and just enough energy from two four-year-olds — to make it happen.

As photographers, we often talk about freezing time.

Of course, we can't really stop it.

Children continue to grow. Vacations end. Families head back home.

But photographs allow us to revisit these moments long after they have passed.

Years from now, these images will remind this family of a warm May evening at Navarre Beach, flower crowns glowing in the sunset light, and two little girls who were exactly four years old.

And that's what family photography is really about.

Not perfection.

Not the perfect pose.

Not getting everyone to look at the camera.

It's about preserving the people we love and the memories we're making together before another season slips by.
